Hello, my name is David Guananga, and I am an artist
I am an immigrant artist from New York City. I was born in Madrid, Spain, but my parents are Ecuadorian. When I was two years old, my family had to move to a small town in the south of Spain. My childhood was surrounded by nature, raised with traditions, and isolated from technology. When I turned ten, my parents made the decision to immigrate to New York. When I arrived in New York, Queens, it was difficult for me to adapt because the environment was a 360-degree change for me, and also the language, English, was not easy for me to learn, but I can get ahead and continue with my studies.
Thanks to my parents for deciding to immigrate to New York City, I realized that I can adapt well to the environment because now I feel part of New York. And also of the opportunities that this city can offer me.
My interest in art started when I was very young, and now I think I am very sure that art is what I have to do. I discovered graphic design in high school and took a graphic art class. At that time, I unleashed all my creativity. And photography started in college. I feel that the two things are different, but that they can be combined very well. I have my references in each sector, in graphic design: Paula Scher, Jessica Walsh, and photography: Vivian Maier, Bruce Gliden, Jacob Riis, and Lewis Hine.
